The big topic that was discussed in the morning session was Devolution. Here is a summary of John Grogan's talk:
1912 speech by Churchill in Dundee mentions Yorkshire and the need for "home rule" or something similar. So this is an old topic.
John Prescott's proposals for regional assemblies (apparently squashed by Tony Blair) - 2004.
The white paper on Devolution - was it published?
Gordon Brown is preparing a "State of Union" report - apparently will propose the House of Lords is replaced with an elected house representing the Nations and Regions. (and perhaps proportional representation).
Advice to ask Yorkshire Universities' to come together to study the matter. Also suggested an "open mic" session on Devolution as part of Yorkshire day (1st August 2023).
Reconvene a Yorkshire Grand Committee. Last one was in Barnsley in 2009
Expand role of Yorkshire Leaders Board to a statutory body.
